[Hear my first album, Tristitia]
The music on All That Matters was inspired by my family and friends!
1. Break of Dawn | Listen | Buy this track
The very beginning of the day symbolizes a fresh start. But there are times in life, too, when we must make a fresh start. This song is the musical story of waking up to a brand new day and pressing courageously forward.
2. One world | Listen | Buy this track
We are all inhabitants of a relatively small planet, yet divided by arbitrary lines and often isolated by prejudice. This piece expresses my hope for humankind; that one day, people will no longer think in terms of "we" vs. "they," but instead "us."
3. Castle Towers | Listen | Buy this track
The enormous towers of the stone castle rise formidably above me against the gray sky. A daunting structure, indeed, but I feel a great sense of hope.
4. Despite the Rain | Listen | Buy this track
This piece reminds me of a trip to Switzerland to visit my sister when she was studying abroad for her freshman year in college. Although no day was without drizzle, we still managed to have a wonderful time and create memories that will forever be vivid in my mind.
5. Our Life | Listen | Buy this track
A good friend who was about to get married showed me an excerpt of a letter he had written to his fiancee in which he expressed how deeply he loved her. Before the wedding, he asked me to compose a song that captured those feelings. This piece is proof that music can indeed encapsulate emotions.
6. If I Can't Be the One | Listen | Buy this track
When a past relationship didn't work out, I knew quite simply that it wasn't meant to be. But I also knew that the future held treasure, and I composed this song to express my optimism and hopes for both of our futures as we led our separate lives.
7. Treelight | Listen | Buy this track
The setting for this song is an outdoor patio surrounded by tall trees. Lanterns are strung across the patio from branch to branch. At dusk, the rays of the setting sun stream through all the leaves and combine with the light from the lanterns, producing a dazzling treelight effect.
8. Until You Leave | Listen | Buy this track
It can be difficult when someone you care about has to leave, but the pain can be eased by spending as much time together as possible before that day comes.
9. Lost in a Moment | Listen | Buy this track
While playing this song at the restaurant where I used to perform, a couple at a nearby table stood up and started dancing next to the piano. Each time I glanced over at them, they appeared more and more lost in each other, and lost in the moment.
10. Nightfall | Listen | Buy this track
Nightfall is such a peaceful time--a time to have a cup of tea, read a book, and fall asleep. This song sprang from a sense of peace and security deep within me.
11. All That Matters | Listen | Buy this track
When I think about my family and friends, how they are always there for me, and what wonderful and genuine people they are, I believe myself to be one of the luckiest people on the planet. The people in my life are everything to me--they are all that matters. More about this...

Tristitia is my first album, which I produced in 1998. It is pronounced 'trist-IT-ee-ah' and is a Latin word meaning "sadness" or "melancholy."
1. Take My Hand | Listen
Please, take my hand and journey with me through some of my life's most influential experiences and powerful emotions, all expressed through what I hold most dear...music.
2. Laurel | Listen
The laurel is a symbol of peace. For me, playing piano and composing music brings me a sense of calm, and it is that tranquility that is conveyed in this song.
3. Wandering | Listen
The musical story of a wanderer with no particular destination, who eventually finds a place to rest and be happy.
4. Tristitia | Listen
As are several of my pieces, this is inspired by one of the most powerful emotions, "tristitia," which means "sadness" or "melancholy" in Latin.
5. Origami Garden | Listen
This short piece is inspired by the poem of the same name, written by my mother, Maggie Pike, and her friend Kathy Root. The poem describes the origami flowers created by a Japanese friend.
6. Longing to Return | Listen
While I was living abroad for a year in Saint-Etienne, France, I would sometimes feel the effects of homesickness, and I composed this to help ease the pain.
7. Snow in April | Listen
In Colorado, an April snow is not entirely uncommon, after which nature's spring rebirth is all the more breathtaking.
8. Holding You | Listen
From birth, one of our most basic needs is human contact. This piece is about the need to be hugged and held, and to hug and hold.
9. Looking Down | Listen
The rhythm of this piece reminds me of looking out the window of an airplane, and watching the ground fall away as we take off.
10. Voyage Through Paradise | Listen
In order to fully appreciate the intense beauty of the Rocky Mountains, from the golden, aspen-carpeted hillsides to the snow-coated summits, one must "Voyage Through Paradise" at least once each season.
11. The End of a Beginning | Listen
A hopeful beginning shattered by an abrupt ending...this piece resonates the paradox of that pain.
12. Brook | Listen
A brook babbles through a lush forest, adding to the tranquility of the already serene musical landscape.
13. The Ultimate Hope | Listen
It's within our ability to reach every goal we have, and to be happy on every level, a happiness which will sustain us even when we go through difficult times. This is the Ultimate Hope.
